Bridget Cushing
Speech/Language Pathology
Ages: 3 - 21
Hello! My name is Bridget Cushing. I am currently a Speech/Language Pathologist for Etowah County Schools. I graduated from Auburn University in 1991 with a B.S. in Communication Disorders. I began my teaching career in the Vestavia Hills school system running a Summer speech program for children with Downs Syndrome. In the Fall of 1991, I began working for Albertville City and remained there for eleven years. During this time I received training in Arkansas to work with children with cochlear implants. After my training, I moved in with a family in the Birmingham area and did speech therapy with their child daily for the Summer. During this time I trained family members on how to work with the child on a daily basis to help improve his language skills. I also attended Auditory Verbal therapy with him on a weekly basis and learned how to use this technique with other hearing impaired students. After the birth of my first child, I then decided to begin working for the Etowah County school system to be closer to my family.  My husband and I have two children; a girl and a boy.

Speech Therapy Information:

I have asked that every student that I work with have a speech notebook for bringing home speech homework and for communication between myself and parents. Please make sure to pack your child's speech notebook on the morning that they have therapy. Some children receive words to review with their parents to help with their articulation skills. Others receive calendars with daily language activites. These calendars are a wonderful way to stimulate your child's language growth and development. Please take at least five minutes a day to go over your child's speech homework. They earn stickers and rewards for completing homework!
